My Accounting Career in Tasmania
1. My Current Focus
I have completed my Bachelor of Business studies in Accounting at the University of Tasmania and am awaiting final results. My immediate goal is to secure a graduate or junior accounting role in Tasmania where I can contribute, receive feedback and develop practical experience.
Having lived, studied and worked in Tasmania, I want to build a long-term career here. I bring an interest in financial analysis, taxation and public-sector finance, alongside a commitment to accurate work and respectful client service.
2. Professional Qualification
I intend to pursue the CA or CPA qualification as the next stage of my development. I plan to confirm my academic eligibility and choose a pathway that supports my role and long-term goals.
I value an environment where I can learn from experienced accountants, build sound professional judgement and combine structured study with practical work.
3. Build on Practical Experience
My foundation includes supervised tax preparation through the UTAS Tax Clinic, H&R Block tax training and a DECYP placement focused on debt management policy and processes.
My next step is to develop further experience in accounting processes, reconciliations, reporting and client support, while learning the systems and standards used by my employer.
4. Develop Technical Skills
I will continue developing Excel, financial analysis and accounting systems skills, with a focus on turning data into clear, useful information.
- Build on ASX company analysis and financial ratio interpretation.
- Develop reporting and visualisation skills using Power BI and Tableau.
- Strengthen practical familiarity with Xero and accounting workflows.
- Keep learning about audit, taxation and ethical professional practice.
5. Grow and Contribute
I will continue building relationships with Tasmanian accounting professionals, seeking feedback and learning from mentors and colleagues.
Over time, I aim to take on greater responsibility, develop advisory skills and progress towards leadership within the accounting profession.
